History is Dangerous

Pondering away
He takes another step
And finally reaches
The big, spooky cave
The pillars, the statues -
All hauntingly delirious
He thinks of Shah Jahan
And his true love
Or was it just vainglory ?
He sees a firefly
The light kills his eyes
His head goes round and round
And he falls down
In the glorious history
Of his ancestors
And he feels strange
About the pomp
And all the tales
Of unnecessary grandiosity
For expressing something simple
Like love
Or maybe destructive -
Like power
"Stop dreaming and come here at once !!!"
Mumtaz shouts
He reaches the endpoint
And grins hideously
For having mistaken
His mom for a queen
