TO MY HUSBAND AS I FACE DYING
SOMETIMES OUR LIVES DON’T GO,
AS WE OFTEN PLAN..
WE HAVE TO ACCEPT WHAT IS
AND CHANGE ONLY WHAT WE CAN.

I REMEMBER LONG AGO,
DO YOU REMEMBER BACK THAT FAR?
YOU SAID YOU LOVED MY HAT,
AS WE SAT THERE IN THAT BAR.

WE LAUGHED AND TALKED
FOR QUITE SOME TIME,
WE DANCED AND LAUGHED AND SAT,
AND ALL YOU SEEMED TO WANT FROM ME,
WAS FOR ME TO WEAR MY HAT.

THEN THE TIME CAME WE WERE WED
THE ALTER DRAPED IN NET.
YOU IN BLUE AND ME IN WHITE,
AND I WAS WEARING MY WHITE HAT.

NOW THE TIME HAS COME TOO SOON
FOR US TO SAY GOODBYE,
40 YEARS OF LOVING YOU
SO QUICKLY HAS GONE BY.

PLEASE DON'T CRY AND BE SO SAD
WE KNEW THIS TIME WOULD COME.
WE'VE HAD FORTY YEARS OF LAUGHTER,
AND SADNESS,WE'VE HAD SOME

NOW MY LOVE WE SAY GOODBYE,
BUT ONLY FOR AWHILE.
I'LL WAIT FOR YOU TO JOIN ME
NOW I LEAVE YOU WITH A SMILE.

I’LL WAIT FOR YOU AT HEAVEN’S GATE
YOU CAN COUNT ON THAT,
I’M THE ONE WITH ANGEL WINGS
AND WEARING MY WHITE HAT!
