This is another poem that I wrote which is similar to Devoting Allegiance.
I stand here now, looking at the castles I've made,
Each and every one a selfish desire of mine.
I had gazed and convinced myself that I'd ne'er trade -
No!  I would never trade in those castles so fine!

God told me that I needed to give them away,
All my pride and the worldly things I counted dear.
God told me once again and in wrath I did say,
"I'll never give them up!  I'll always hold them near!"

I shut God out of my life and ignored His calls.
I did what I wanted without heed to the cost.
Around my rebellious heart I placed stone walls,
And in this fashion I became sinfully lost.

But then one monumental day my world shuddered.
God's normally small voice was now a ringing shout.
Sadly He showed me the worldly things I preferred.
He told me He wanted to cast those bad things out.

I thought about all my devotions at that time,
How I held my allegiance to this sinful world.
I went to church but I was nothing but a mime,
I only dressed up nice and had my hair neatly curled.

But then everything I knew was rent asunder,
God had come in to show me His marvelous way.
As He spoke His voice was loud and rolled like thunder,
He took me in His hands and said I was the clay.

I gave myself completely over to His care,
My life was given to His loving emotion.
Now I find myself with smiles and laughs to spare;
A new creature in Christ trading my devotion.
