Country Western Poem
Phoenix

I became country, before country was written,
Each girl that I left, still followed me smitten.
It's not in their love, its in my distaste,
For things of this world, that I cannot face,

I wear button down shirts, and grow Elvis chops,
Tip my hat to the girls, as I run from the cops.
My family comes first, but I finish last,
I'm a hell of a time, as I ride from my past.

Still darker now, and Now darker still,
Its the love that you make, those heartaches you kill,
Now darker still, but still darker now,
The bottle killed you, and my heart he asks how?

People don't like me, yet most people do,
Its hard to escape me, my heart thats so blue.
I sleep under stars, to escape this 'yes sir',
Pray for the way, to kill thoughts of her.

I drink tons of beer, then I rope like Ali,
Why don't you fight me, see how tough I can be?
My cowboy way is one of honor and class,
But don't piss me off, cuz I'll still kick your ass.

Still darker how? and Now darker still,
Its the love that you take, those heartaches you feel,
Now darker still, but still darker now,
The bottle killed you, and my heart he asks how?

And if in the end the light is too much,
Don't long for her love or long for her touch.
Just forget what she has, remember your lot,
She may have things, but a soul she ain't got.

Take the first train right out of here,
Tell Mama bye and leave with no fear.
She set you free, which is just who you are,
Pack up your bags, and bring your guitar.

Still darker now, and Now darker still,
Its the love that you make, those heartaches you kill,
Now darker still, but still darker how?
The cowboy killed her, my heart knows that now.
