Our aquarium became a house of horrors
Stressed to the max,
the time was high,
for me to just relax.

A shopping spree,
too rich for me,
and forget the sales tax.

A pet shop window calls,
with puppies, cats, and birds.
Pugs, Persians, and Macaws,
They were too cute for words.

Yes, I already had one feline,
she was a jealous devil's incarnate,
but the choice to adopt was mine,
so I'd adopt a kitten gosh-darn it!

The price was little too steep,
and my heart quickly sank.
Then I remembered .....
I chose to keep,
my children's old fish tank!

Yes! This will be fun!

It's good for my blood pressure,
And goldfish are pretty cheap.
I can set it up on my oak dresser,
And watch it till I gently fall asleep.

I then went back home,
with colored bags of stone,
and boxes of fish food.
I had thought of everything,
And I was feeling pretty good.

Where did I put that tank?
I found it in the back yard.
The old filter really stank,
So I scrubbed it out real hard.

There! All nice and clean.
Now to fill it with fresh H20.
Whoops,be carefull!
Don't pour too much,
or it just might overflow!

Little vials for to test,
things like PH and acidity.
This is harder than I guessed.
Who knew I'd need a fish PHD?

Add the rocks,
a few green things,
some caves for fish to hide.
Turn on the pumps,
With trickly jumps,
A tiny lagoon comes alive.

My, it's very pretty,
but something seems amiss.
There's water, plants,rocks, and...
Oh yes, we need some fish!

Leaving the pet shop once more,
with pretty and sparkly fish.
Should have put the cat outdoor,
Guess they must have been delish.

Oh Dear God, the humanity!
There eating fish eyes like jelly,
like some fat-assed manatee,
was my cat filling her belly.

How could you! You beast!
But she didn't even care,
Now that she had her feast,
she closed her eyes and lay there.

In the tank, it was even worse,
some were yet barely alive,
others bobbed upside-down,
with their guts popping from inside.

Golden scales told of the horror,
the tank was bubbling bloody-red
But the cat-monster in my parlor,
didn't care I was crying or what I said.

This was too much, I needed Haz-Mat,
it took more stomach then I could give
I would get even with that stupid cat,
And wouldn't forgive her as long as I live.

Later no kisses, no brushing, no treat,
Like sushi, revenge is best served cold.
I wouldn't even let her sit by my feet.
But another horror would soon unfold.

Later in bed, in the dark, a smell....
Pee-yooo! What the hell is that?
On my satin pillow was a fish,
A peace-offering from my screwball cat.
