Fireflies lighting the grassy path,
earthen-perfumed and dew-laden,
guiding me to the weary soul's repast.
I am this night the eve's handmaiden.
Drinking moonlight's mist I become,
the envied of a hostile morning sun.
In all sunlight days there's none defined,
as sensual or lovely as midnight refined.
Entreat me not to venture again,
to tortureous daylight clime.
I seek the restful,pleasant calm,
of moonlight's eternal sublime.
Night doth fly to the day's unrest,
now hidden, a moth in dark shade,
Go brutish sun and take with thee,
the foul brightness you have made.
Dear moon, at last you come to quell,
sun's burning and bitter harshness.
I treasure the magic you gracefully dispell,
and lie arrayed in your moonlit garments.
Farewell today oh fluid moon now gone.
Nature sings of your praises this day,
For even in thy absence tis you alone,
who gives rest and makes sunlight obey.
