In my tiny and cozy world,
I saw you as a father first.
You rocked me,diapered me,
and bottled me when I did thirst.
Having selfish needs met,
was my only concern.
But you accomplished much more,
that in time I did learn.
Putting my scribbles onto the fridge,
bragging to neighbors about all that I did.
Going to PTA meetings when it was hard,
to talk to the teacher and see my report card.
First boyfriend heartache, you said he's a jerk,
then you kept me busy and put me to work.
You said put my goals first and be true to myself,
listen to my heart above all before else.
Living in my own place at first was lonely,
you hung up a mailbox, helped make it more homey.
I began to see you in a different side,
you said,"don't sweat the small stuff, take things in stride."
Late for a visit, your phone you didn't answer,
now you're in the hospital with full-blown lung cancer.
Not too late to tell you, it's not quite the end,
I guess you knew all along you were my best friend.
