A poem about two tragic past events that we can't let happen again.
Fateful August days,
Fire from heaven seared the earth,
As a bright beacon shown on the inhabitants.

Howl of shock waves poured from the sky,
Moment of time forever frozen,
On every clock of time and every hearts' clock.

Devastation appeared before those that remained,
Horror of shadows sealed in stone they beheld,
And torture of the body was the only thing left.

Thirst for water filled with corpses,
Hunger for food now ash,
Pain from wounds slow to heal.

Skin fell away rapidly,
Eyes strained,hard to see,
Rubble and bone crunched underfoot.

They waited, waited for something,
Someone to help,
Or death to come swiftly.

Time past,
Cities rebuilt,
Visible wounds healed.

The tears remained,
They forever stain the earth,
They cry out to all that listen.

"Children of the Earth!
Hear us and listen,
The past cannot be changed."

"We do not know what would happen if the past was changed,
Better it may have been,
But worse it might be still."

"We cry out to those who listen,
We beg and pray,
Don't let this happen again."

"Remind the ignorant and deaf to our pleas,
Remind them what happened here,
Never let this world forget."

So we cry,
Time passes and we seem to forget,
But each time a new tear is shed, it cries:

"Do not forget!"
