The yips and yelps of two pups at play slowed, then changed to a frenzied barking. All at once, the unmistakable odor of skunk scent permeated the area, and piteous yelping filled the evening air.
Ralph looked out the living room window just in time to see the last of the animal's white stripe disappear under a bush.
"Oh, just great!" he groused. "I wonder which genius managed to get himself sprayed this time?"
His gaze shifted to the left...and his shoulders slumped. Both dogs were rolling on the grass, trying to rub off the horrible smell. As he watched, Jeb did a flip, landed on his back, and began a rapid back and forth scrubbing motion.
Well, he thought, I'm glad those stories about tomato juice are true. While I'm at the store, I think I'll get a lemon-scented spray for the house.
