Losing best friends, falling in love twice, leaving everything she knows..it it worth it?
"Oh," Regan gasped. "The moon is so gorgeous tonight! Don't you think?"
"Mmm," Brody agreed by slowly nodding his head. "Regan, do you like the rain?"
"No, it makes the water all foggy the next day. And everything is so blah."
Brody laughed and squeezed her fingers gently. "I couldn't agree any more."
The two of them walked along the beach as night settled and tourist families packed up from the long day. Kids cried that they didn't want to leave, and dogs barked from all the chaos. But other then that, the night was so pretty and peaceful. Regan was glad she wasn't here with her family and Brody instead.
"When do you think my mom is going to start giving me a curfew? I think she is getting suspicious of these late night walks."
Brody snuck a look at the moon again. Regan wondered why he kept doing that. But then he gave her an onery smile and tousled her hair with his hand. "She wont, trust me."
Regan nodded, but bit her bottom lip.
"Something bothering you, hun?" He asked kindly. His words made the violent waves sound calmer, and they soon became relaxing.
While she thought about how to say her next thought, the humidity settled in and soon rain would fall.
"You just-" she turned around in his arms so that she was facing him- "You amaze me by the way you speak. Your words flow together so good. A-and you surprise me all the time. I never know what you're going to do next, or look like."
His expression made Regan's heart beat faster.
"Look like?" he asked.
"Yes. Sometimes you're eyes turn amazingly beautiful, just out of nowhere. And when they do, your hair stands up like you just got electrocuted. It makes me feel like I'm under some sort of spell," Regan rambled. She stopped herself realizing that she was speaking her thoughts out loud. Had she got too far? Would he think she was weird and go away.
Brody smiled weakily and stared at the moon with his eyes closed for a few seconds, standing very still. By now, Regan was use to him doing this. Usually this was when his eyes were about to change like she had just described. Breath takingly beautiful. But, they stayed normal, if normal was the right word for them.
"So," he said while breathing in and stared intently on Regan's face. "I amaze you, surprise you, do I ever scare you?"
"Sometimes," she admitted.
"I don't want you to be scared of me personally, just of what I am capable of doing to you." His voice had gone low.
Hesitantly, Regan ran her fingers through his soft strands of blond hair.
"Are you dangerous?"
"Not in the normal ways, no. I am dangerous in ways that go beyond you."
"Physically?"
"Yes," he said slowly, like yes wasn't the word he wanted to use.
Regan swallowed. "Emotionally?"
"Very much so."
Fear entered her veins. "If you are thinking about leaving again. . ."
Brody closed his eyes and sighed with disapproval. "I don't think I can leave you anymore."
"Should that scare me?"
"Does giving up everything just for me scare you?"
Without thinking about the meaning of what he had asked, Regan answered shakily,
"No."
Brody grimaced and touched her cheek softly with his fingertip. "Then I don't know who she be more scared, me or you."
