We took the St. Charles street car line
to Camellia Grill for a dish so fine.
Batiste brought our omelets,
(the Chef Special is a good bet.)
Bacon, ham, onions and cheese,
french fries all together, sure to please.
My mouth watered as I started to eat
this decadent American treat.
Sitting in this old Greek style diner,
I thought nothing could be finer.
There is a counter long and shining,
like heaven mixed with a silver lining.
We sat on the red topped round stools,
and drank in surroundings; forgotten jewels.
Old Batiste has been here over fifty years,
and may stay fifty more it appears.
With full bellies and a content smile,
we decided to sit and chat for awhile.
In this Greek Plantation style eatery,
we sipped coffee and longed to tarry,
but had to catch the streetcar uptown,
before night came and they shut down.
Batiste left us with a smile sincere, "Y'all come back again sometime y'hear?"
