First essay I ever wrote. |
Why I like Martial Arts Martial Arts is important to me because it teaches discipline and self control, while at the same time creating a feeling of empowerment. Martial Arts is an art form that strengthens the mind and body, which people all over the world have done for centuries. With hard work and dedication, one will eventually learn these three principles. In class a student learns discipline through listening and focus. If the student does not listen to the advice of the teacher and higher ranked students, he will not learn the skills he needs to learn. Focus is also needed, otherwise a student cannot progress. Focus is needed in the forums that students learn, so that they can make perfect moves each time. Classes teach students self-control through working with others. Class is often broken up into groups of two, where the students might have to strike at each other. This is when one learns self-control. The goal is to not hit the other student, but to show them that they failed to block the strike. This will teach a student self-control over his body. Students also learn to control what they say and how they act. If a teacher does something that a student does not agree with, it might not be wise to say so in class. So, one should wait until afterwards, as a sign of respect towards the teacher. A student can easily feel empowered while taking these classes. In Martial Arts, students learn to do things that they thought they never could, and it takes many attempts to master that one move. But when a student finally does complete it, he feels a sense of pride. It teaches that if people try hard enough, they can accomplish anything. That is empowering in and of itself. I hope that you now understand a few of the reasons I like Martial Arts. It is because of the discipline it teaches, the self-control students learn, and the empowerment a person feels from doing something right. There is nothing like it in the world. |
