true story
To the People Whose Sleep I Disturbed (a true story)
New Years Day, about 2am

The party’s over
And you’re all curled up in bed,
Warm and cosy under the extra duvet
That saves you from the freezing winter nights.
A fire distributes a gentle glow throughout the room
As the last of the coal crumbles into the grate
You sigh, and turn over,
Heaving the duvet up around your ears
Barely disturbing the cat
That sleeps on your feet.
There’s no sound to be heard
The whole world is silent.

That is, until….

Amy Bennett
Psycho Racing Driver from Hell
Ploughs her red and white 2CV into your garden at 50mph.
There’s an almighty bang as she hits the wall
Followed by a deadly silence.

You wake up with a start
And scramble out of bed.
Wrapped in your dressing gown
You charge downstairs and outside
Hoping to be of some assistance to the poor driver.
The world is in darkness,
And you can barely make out the headlights
As the driver pisses off into the night
Never to be seen again.
