The Long Cold Winter and it's Little Joys
Winter's Bliss

Written by Mark D. Tuell

The glistening cold
illuminates my senses
as I walk at sunrise.
There is no one else out
let alone about.
No one driving by in a car.
It seems not a flesh and bones
is alive this morn
except mine.

My breath freezes in the air
before my eyes.
I ponder why my fingers
and toes
feel like icesicles
hanging from my limbs?
Mabe it is because,
just a slight possibility,
the reason is
it's nine degrees out here!
How do the birds stand it?

No matter what
it is a beautiful day,
with the sun
beaming across
a blanket of white
covering all the earth
for as far
that I can see.

So as I go about my day,
I'll just keep this thought
in the back of my mind.
of just how great
my nice warm bed will be
when I lay my head down
to rest tonight.
At peace with Winter's bliss
outside my windows,
for another day
and one more night.
