Wrote this on a lonely night at the bar
I sit in this corner by myself thinking of all I've done with my life. I sit in this corner watching bubbles form at the bottom of my glass then travel their way through a golden brown voide before eventually finding their heaven in the air above and beyond. I sit in this lonely corner and observe as a typical night unravels itself before me: people dancing, drinking, yelling, hugging, celebrating nothing at all, and at the same time celebrating everything at once. why am I even here, I tried to enjoy myself but nothing's working; its time to leave.
My car rumbles to life and purrs out an idle that seems to say " i missed you.... lets play"..... yes, lets! My foots jams the gas to the floor and the engine roars back at me with a note of satisfaction,'it's about damn time". The clutch comes up and the tires scream out in protest as they chew into the pavement desperately trying to grab a hold of the ground below. They finally do but now the front wheels seem to resent that very same pavement. there is no control at this point, I'm staring into the night sky, my headlights illuminating the stars instead of the road ahead. second gear remedies this.
I jam into third gear and watch as the speedometer steadily rises, the rear wheels chirp with trepidation as we abruptly find fourth gear. We're on our way, should'nt be long now. Orange signs with words that are too blurred to make out are appearing with increased frequency and urgency. The wind is cold as it passes through the window and my bones. Everythings a blur now, rocks and desert tremble as I approach and crumble into nothing as I pass. Found fifth gear!
The moon's reflecting as a heavenly orb on the hood of my charriot. The scenery all blurs into an abstract oil painting outside, all that's clear to me is the howl of the four hundred steeley horses pulling me towards oblivion with relentless and unnerving obedience. I crack the whip one more time, sixth gear, end of the line...
the chorus line of signs become clear for a fleeting moment. words like warning, detour and bridge out dance at the corners of my eyes before they and the surrounding desert are immediately replaced by a vast expanse of open blackness. im breathing smoke, flames glimmer in my eyes and a twisted grin comes across my face as we plummit into a midnight void whose open arms and cold embrace beckon to us with an inescapeable sense of hospitality. this whole time i have simply been trying to relax and if this is what it takes.... at least i feel better......
