Need help editing n proofreading. The essay ? was: Why do u want to attend U of I?
Six years ago, my elder brother insulted me and claimed that I was not intelligent enough to attend a University, and that I would end up wasting my time at some community college before realizing I am not college material. I took his words as a challenge, and became eager to prove him wrong. The best proof would be to attend the University of Illinois, which he considered the best university, and be successful there.

During my high school years, as a new immigrant student, I faced many challenges. I struggled to improve my reading, writing, and English-speaking skills throughout high school. There were times when I questioned my capabilities, and wondered if I could achieve my goal. After struggling with myself, I strengthened my determination in hopes of improving and working towards my goal. I applied to a community college to improve my grades and prove to myself that I was capable of becoming a student at University of Illinois. With my newfound determination, I earned a grade point average of 3.6 during my first year. I believed in myself again.

My aspiration to attend University of Illinois is not only to prove my brother wrong, but also because University of Illinois offers the quality education I seek. It has one of the best engineering programs in the nation which I may decide to pursue. Furthermore, University of Illinois has one of the best researches in meteorology, as one day I want to conduct research on clouds and radiation or Arctic Meteorology and climate.

Although my brother’s words had cut me at first, I later realized that they were helping me mold a brighter future for myself. He had unknowingly taught me the importance of education, which has led me to applying to the University of Illinois today.
