CLONING CHRIST

Believe it or not, I think that I have now heard it all. Would you believe that a group of oddballs who call themselves "The Second Coming Project" are making plans to clone Jesus Christ?
It's true!

According to an article written by Michael Y. Park, members of a secretive group plan on using the latest "Jurassic Park" type of technology to clone Jesus using a small amount of DNA from one of the Christian relics that may allegedly possess some bodily fluid from Jesus.

Relics such as the famous Shroud of Turin, believed by many of the devout to contain the blood of Christ.
The group hopes that the cloned Jesus fetus could be placed into a female volunteer's womb then carried to term in a totally immaculate conception; in theory, another virgin birth.

Once born, the baby Jesus clone would be like any other child, except the group hopes he'd usher in an age of peace on earth.

There are a number of pitfalls related to this incredible experiment though, primarily the unanswerable question concerning the authenticity of the holy relics.

Although many devout Christians believe them to be fully authentic, there are also many skeptics who believe they are simply clever forgeries or out-in-out lies.

There's also the challenge of cloning a human being from a 2,000-year-old sample of DNA.

Biologist Arthur Caplan, director of the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, notes that cloning requires DNA that has been perfectly preserved and that any damage to the DNA would result in damaged, deformed or just non-starting cloning material.

That's why the scientists in the movie "Jurassic Park" used preserved blood from the dinosaurs captured inside mosquitoes who had been sealed in amber. And we know even that was somewhat far-fetched - from the creative mind of the writer. (Those darn writers!)

That cloning can be done has already been proven, but the cloning of a human being is another question. Not only a question of ability, but also a question of morals and ethics.

For example; should the filthy rich be given the power to clone their own bodies as replacement parts when the old ones wear out? All they'd have to do is go to the refrigerator and get a new heart, or lung, or (God forbid) an entire new body someday!

While the undertaking of this project may, in the eyes of this small group, be planned for and with good intentions, I personally think it's a bit absurd.

Are they attempting to play God? What if they wind up with - the Anti-Christ?

To begin with, they have totally missed the point. The Lord teaches us to become like him, not reproduce him.

And, if this secret group can clone Jesus, what about other secret groups - perhaps more sinister in their goal - who may want to clone people like Adolph Hitler, Stalin, Nostradamus, Napoleon, even Lincoln?
And we all thought Doctor Frankenstein was scary?
