Overdose

Craving for an escape from reality,
she takes the most harmful route.
Reaches for her pez-dispenser,
and pops the deadliest pill around.

Slipping in and out of sanity,
becoming literally high out of the mind.
Floating out of her physical body, frightened,
she reaches down, yet common ground she cannot find.

Desperately she struggles to fall back into normality,
but higher and higher she slowly ascends into the clouds.
Her skin is fading into a pale, white color,
as she leaks foam out of her dry and pasty, purple mouth.

Fighting back heavy, tear-filled eyelids,
she realizes she has made the ultimate mistake.
Suddenly, faster than she creeps out of conscienciousness,
she snaps back, and finds herself in a hospital bed, AWAKE.
