A passing memory brings to light a new reality.
There was a time when I would have given anything for you, yet as I look into your eyes I do not see the future I once had envisioned (all those years ago). You are a distant memory to me. Yet there was a time when you meant everything to me. In my eyes, in my heart, you were perfection. Yet love truly is blind for when I asked you a question, if you would stay with me forever - you gave me an answer that you thought I needed to hear out of some twisted form of devotion or misplaced emotion – I know not either. That deed did mar me so well. That even to this day, you still creep into my dreams. And when my mind wanders, it is your name that escapes my lips. But it is not you who I wish to hold in my fingertips. And when I say “I love you” it is not your face that comes to my mind. Nor is it you who makes me smile. You are a distant memory, a forlorn possibility. That is all you will ever be to me. A distant memory.
