Something that came out of nowhere last night to ruin my day.
In the lonely house above the town
The old man sits and counts his crowns
Remembering his yesterday
He makes the sunshine fade away

The old man sits and counts his crowns
He blinds the light and mutes the sounds

He blinds the light, he shuts his eyes
Ignores the present mournful cries
He locks the doors and settles in
To let the memories begin

Ignores the present mournful cries
He writes a sign across the skies

He writes a sign to make a shield
He doesn't fail, he doesn't yield
The sign reads, "YOU NEED NOT APPLY"
And sentences them all to die

He doesn't fail, he doesn't yield
He doesn't walk the granite field

He doesn't walk through graveyards gray
Not in the night nor in the day
There's something in his mind that keeps
Him fearful of that endless sleep

Not in the night nor in the day
It never had to end this way

Not in the night nor in the day
He never had to end this way

In the granite fields, beneath a stone
The old man withers, still alone
