A poetic piece describing the transformation that time causes within us |
Past mistakes, fallen, Had withered me away. Left me lifeless and bare At least for that day. The pain of yesterday, From which I couldn't run, Chilled me to the bones- With no reprieve from the sun I sought for a break Just some warmth to be had But the more I looked The more I became sad My heart became colder And more dreary too The more I fought it The more the storm grew I froze for months In my own murky place I couldn't find the pleasure I'd been trying to chase The desperation set in It was the worst of nights The winter snap of heart Had clutched my chest tight I'd never felt a pain So real and concluding I thought for sure I was dead From the pain that'd been brooding But I woke up soon after Different than before The sun SHONE thru my eyes Cause I realized there was more Than the pain that had been Swallowing me for way too long And before I knew it My heart SANG a new song It had thawed from the ice That had previously incased it BROKE FREE of the pain That had unwillingly braced it Like a baby taking her very first breath Now resurrected Was my Autumn death |
