The Mysterious Book

Melissa awoke with a start. She looked at her clock and it said that it was 3:25 in the morning. As she was looking at her clock she noticed out of the corner of her eye a strange but inviting glow coming from the middle of her bedroom floor.
As her eyes darted towards the glow she thought silently to herself ' What in the world is this? It is strange but oddly inviting at the same time, maybe I should check it out.'
Melissa rolled out of bed and walked to the middle of her bedroom. As she got closer she noticed a big book laying on her floor open. 'Hm-mm, I thought I put all of my books away before I went to sleep.' She thought.
As she got closer she heard tiny whispers, but she could not make out what they were saying. She sat on the floor and lifted the book up to her ear. "Enter our World, you will have so much fun. Step into the portal."
"Even stranger, now the book is talking." She said to herself as she set the book back on the floor. "How do I step into the portal? It might be a trap of some kind." she whispered as she ran her hand through the glow to see what would happen.
As Melissa ran her hand through the glow it disappeared, so she quickly pulled her hand back from the glow. 'Hm-mm the Glow is the Portal.' Thinking to herself as she stood up. "I will take the risk of it being a trap, I want to find out where this 'Portal' goes."
She took a step over the book and through the glow. when she set her feet back down, she looked around. She saw what appeared to be a beautiful paradise of sorts, with lots of beautiful flowers and trees with lush green leaves, and crystal like bodies of water.
"Welcome to our world friend. Name please." a strange siren- like voice spoke.
"My name is Melissa Dart-smith, and you are?". Melissa stated inquisitively.
"I am Starshine, and this is the new and improved Utopia. Melissa are you a Human?"
Melissa nodded. "Yes I am human, and what are you? and where are you? I would like to see who I am speaking to."
"I am a Human-fish. I live in the water here." Starshine stated.
"Human- Fish? what is that? Is it like what us humans know as a Mermaid?" Melissa asked as she walked around the rock. She saw exactly what her story books depicted a mermaid to look like when she was a child. " Never mind Starshine I have the answer to my own questions."
"I would like to have you as a friend. You can come and go between my world and your world whenever you choose, but you have to promise me that you will never tell anyone about my world." Starshine spoke softly.
"I....I Promise." Agreed Melissa. Then Melissa went back to where she had entered this world at, and was back in her bedroom near the book. She picked up the book and shut it, walked over to her bed and slid it under her mattress.
Melissa crawled back into bed and shut her eyes. She quickly fell back asleep. When she woke again at 1:00pm in the afternoon she thought that it was all just a dream.
