A poem about life, history and what we have (not) learned. |
Lying on my back, I look upwards. Past, present, future, Existing together. The sky is reassuring, Yet I struggle. Persuaded by stillness, Expectation doubts. Uncertainty in my mind, What lies ahead? Terrified by answers, Truth ensues. Looking to the heavens, I seek resolution. Influenced by yesterday, Tomorrow obeys. The outlook is unknown, Anarchy is looming. Frustrated by chaos, Harmony disappears. A change is imminent, The world suffers. Conquered by madness, Sanity fails. Unions wipe out unity, Seeking noble rewards. Captured by greed, Restraint surrenders. Everything turns to violence, Nothing is sacred. Seized by anger, Diplomacy submits. Wars rage against humanity, We battle ourselves. Overcome by faith, Everybody opposes. Killing and ruin control, Devastation is prominent. Terrorized by brutality, Everything dies. I open my eyes, Awaken to optimism. Liberated by peace, Certainty returns. Encouragement fills my body, There is hope. Supported by confidence, Freedom resurrects. We learned from history, Conflict causes conflict. Guided by liberty, Anticipation evolves. As I look around, Dreams become nightmares. Destined by fate, History repeats. War, devastation, anger, fear, All apparent about. Present becomes past, Future dies. Lying on my back, I look upwards. Past, present, future, Dying together. Have we learned nothing? |
