A poem about not being fooled into taking the wrong path. |
As I’m walking late at night I look across the evening sky Feel a cool breeze come across me Take two hits and then I’m high Moon is glowing, fully grown Leaves are rustling across the ground I see something in the thicket What is this that I have found? And then I see most clearly A long trail leading me astray At the end, a light that guides me Making sure I know the way And as I follow further The picture becomes much clearer I see her, brightly standing there She smiles as I come near her She beckons me to follow Deep down into aphotic cave This sublime, alluring goddess Does she lead me to my grave? We go deeper in the earth And the crevice opens wider We gaze into an open room I stand along beside her Lone trunk sits in the middle And it looks to be a casket She waits for me to make my move Step forward, then I grasp it As I look down deep inside I hear a cackle from behind Dreams fill this cadaverous case As if pouring from my mind I turn to see fair lady But sneering hag stands in her place Baneful eyes are fixed upon me Her age strewn across her face In creeps the light of the dawn Start realizing where I went wrong And the path that I had been on Was the right one all along |
