Definitions of terms withing the created world known as Talliaen |
L Laera The sun mistress and goddess of the sun, the sky, and daylight. Laera sided with Ereom during the Kialle-Poryae and, being terribly wounded, was forced to combine her essence with that of the goddess Madeas. Laera is the sister of Voshem, the god of darkness, and remains constantly at odds with him. They share the heaven and remain in battle for supremacy over it. He chases her away each evening and she does the same to him each morning, thus creating the cycles of night and day. She is the stronger of the two during the summer months, accounting for the longer days at that time of the year. She is accredited with bringing the sun into the sky each morning, putting it to sleep each night, and with the creation of the color blue, painting the daytime sky with it so that she could look upon its beauty each day when she returned with the sun. Laera-Madeas Laera-Madeas is the goddess of good fortune, the hearth, the sky, the sun, and of daylight. She is responsible for bringing Talliaen’s suns into the sky each morning and is associated with the aspects of good luck, being responsible for the positive outcomes of chance, the success of business adventures, and with the completion of tasks of great importance. It is commonly believed that she created the color blue and painted the sky with it so that she could look upon its beauty each day when she returned with the sun. Laera-Madeas is the combined essences of Laera, the sun mistress, and Madeas, the goddess of luck, originally created by Ereom as sisters. During the Kialle-Poryae they were both injured and significantly drained of their power. Madeas offered what remained of her essence to Laera so that they both might live. After the two were joined their responsibilities and powers became shared within a single being. Laera-Madeas is at constant odds with Voshem, the god of darkness and her brother. They share the heaven and remain in battle for supremacy over it. He chases her away each evening and she does the same to him each morning, thus creating the cycles of night and day. She is the stronger of the two during the summer months, accounting for the longer days at that time of the year. There are two religions associated with Laera-Madeas, randomism and autrianism. Randomists believe that Laera-Madeas has some sway in the events of chance, but the final results are ultimately left up to random interpretation. They do not have any holy days or any existing temples of service. Followers of randomism wear a medallion known as an ujael. The medallion is a granite star with eight points inset with a sunstone at its center. Autrianists believe that the sun is the center of all life. It is believed that the sun is a constant, always rising into the sky each morning, and therefore they believe that it is important to be continuous in their work, believing in unwavering patience. They are very patient and celebrate a single holy day, Ajoura, on the twenty fifth day of Jonora. It is the longest day of the year and followers of Laera-Madeas believe that honoring the sun on this day will bring them great benefits from the keeper of the light. All autrianist temples are known as sun palaces and are led by a priestess of at least twenty years of service to that specific temple. Laera-Madeas resides within the Palace of Kalmaer in a realm known as Aurora. The realm appears as an endless plane of shining stars with no roof, walls, or floor. The gateway to the realm is guarded by a muscular, humanoid male in gold armor that wields a golden staff with a flaming spearhead at either end. The guard, a fire lord, is one form of Laera-Madeas’s chosen angels and similar beings travel Aurora keeping watch over its boundaries. Movement through the realm is done on paths of sunlight that cross it in long, thin strands. Laera-Madeas and her chosen angels replenish Talliaen’s sun continually with the vast energies found within her realm. She is depicted as a young, beautiful, human woman with bronze skin and long, flowing hair of gold always garbed in white and gold and accompanied by large felines. Marce forged a military, during his reign, intent on combining the use of weapons, physical and mental skill, and magic to take advantage of any opponent it faced. He reinstituted military training and the advancement of tactical procedures within the r’kian nation and lent officers to aid in training the elves and the communities associated with Shai-Laur. In 4,135b, after the death of his mate Alea Aldarion, he was granted permission from Carista Alea to be executed by the new vaur as a matter of honor and his life was brought to an end. Lanau, Aevora (???-8,765b) Aevora Lanau is the cousin of Lanau Ollorna named queen of the r’kian when Lanau gave up the throne in 10,705b. She began a policy of isolationism that separated the r’kian from relations with the dwarf and elf races. In an ill fated attempt to eliminate the evil potential of the ealam magic, Aevora declared war upon their rivals. Neither race had completely recovered from the long, brutal Thousand Year War and this war, the Magic War, almost completely exterminated both the ealam and the r’kian. After years of preparing for a r’kian departure, Aevora sealed Dalpon, turned control of the Don-Auk over to the elves, and led the r’kian into an unknown exile in 10289b and is believed to have died sometime around 8,765b. It has a long history of conquest and subjugation and is seen as an evil, brutal entity that has been the scorn of both gods and mortals alike. She acts for the gods against their followers by assuming a portion of a god’s essence and become its avatar until vengeance has been achieved. Leywen always appears as a dark skinned female, with bright blue eyes that swirl continuously, medium length red wings, and long black hair. Around her neck hangs a necklace crafted from a distant star. The necklace has the ability to absorb her essence and reshape her within the heavens if she is slain while in the mortal world. She is the most visible of all angels, preferring to openly confront anyone that she faces. She makes her presence and objectives known and enacts vengeance only through the destruction of the one in offense of the heavens. The sun itself casts very little light upon the planet and can really only be seen during a period of fifty years when it is at its closest to Talliaen. During this period, planet temperatures rise slightly making drought and famine more common occurrences. For one half of each of these fifty years both suns appear in the sky at the same time. For the remainder of year Linaeus sits in a night sky, making the nights more like a continuous twilight. It is believed that it was this sun that replenished Ereom’s strength and gave him the form he presently occupies, draining it of much of its power and brilliance. Linaeus is believed to be the permanent home to Talliaen’s gods. Linajaes Mortal beings formed from the essences of the gods. He determines the undertakings of his temple, negotiating with outsiders for the use of mages and accepting payments for their services. Mage-Lords Mage lord is the term given to mages with the ability to develop and use all forms of existing magic. Though a common thing in ancient times, it is extremely rare for any being to be born with the ability to employ the entire magic spectrum. Typically, the power generated by a mage lord eventually causes various forms of insanity within beings possessing such power. It is believed that only those with some direct bloodline traced to Othrum Elendrew, the god of magic, can have this ability. Mage Temple Mage temples are the religious churches of Othrum Elendrew. Violence is not permitted within these temples under any conditions, a policy respected by all on Talliaen, but services for war or any other undertaking can be negotiated for and bought through the temple. Mageism Mageism is the worship of Othrum Elendrew, the god of magic, through the use of magic. Those that study the beliefs of mageism, good or evil, and worship or serve the creator of magic are the only mortals able to become a true mage. Creatures of this ilk are endowed, from birth, with the mystic aura of Talliaen engraved upon their form. These are the most powerful of magic abilities. Magic born come into life in possession of the power and can employ it with very little effort and is limited only by the strength and desire of those with it. The sylph, elf, ealam, r’kian, and dragon bloodlines are all in possession of this ancient magic, the essence of Othrum Elendrew, which was used in the creation of life upon Talliaen. Though those with the ability to learn to use already existing magic sometimes claim to be magic born, only those with it engrained in their very fabric are truly magic born. Magic War (10,590b-10,425b) War between the r’kian and the ealam lasting from 10,590b to 10,425b. The war was initiated by the r’kian who, fearing the increased power of ancient magic and wanting to gain control of its base, declared that the use of ancient magic outside the r’kian race was forbidden, restricted by the god of magic, Othrum Elendrew, because of travesties committed against the r’kian. Though this thought had existed for several thousand years, it became official law among the r’kian with their declaration. The r’kian attempted to locate all items created by the use of ancient magic and either gain control over them or destroy them. The ealam, ruled to unjustly wield the magic, were attacked relentlessly by the r’kian and, from this treatment, open war erupted. The war was ruthless, aimed primarily at the destruction of magics and those with the use of ancient magic. The ealam, greater in military strength, focused on the extermination of all r’kian civilization and the r’kian, more powerful in the use of ancient magic, focused on the destruction of magic items, wielders of magic, and all ranking ealam officials. In 10,431b the ealam, claiming that they were ordered by the heavens to end the fight over magic permanently, began a six year period of slaying all r’kian in possession of great power that came to be known as the ordained executions. In his original position within the heavens he served as a subordinate to Si, the keeper of dreams, but was able to solidify his power as time passed and wrested control over Tahlrad away from Si. Even though he is the lord of the dream world he remains in constant struggle with Araem-Si, who retains Si’s ability to manipulate events in the realm. Meaje is particularly cunning and enjoys toying with mortals by sending puzzles and prophesies through their dreams. Those prophesies, while never clear or completely accurate, their true meanings usually hidden behind symbols and riddles, are always true in their forecast of the future. There are no formal religions associated with Meaje, but there is a sect of followers known as dream-lords. They do not stand on ceremony and believe that Meaje has given them the ability to dream cast and therefore most find themselves in direct service to him. Dream-lords identify themselves by either a tattoo or medallion bearing the god’s symbol, a tree burning with red flames on a field of white. These items are allowed to travel into Tahlrad with the dream-lords and signify their right to operate freely within the realm. Generally there are two prominent types of dream-lords, the dream chasers and the dream catchers. The dream chasers have the ability to use their powers to lock powerful promises within a sleeping being’s subconscious and then identify the whereabouts of that person through their dreams. As long as that person remains short of achieving their dreams, usually based on inner desires and twisted bits of prophesy that force them to seek greatness, they can always be found by a dream chaser. Dream catchers are powerful magic users that use Tahlrad to find, control, subdue, or destroy a being through the use of their dreams. A catcher uses fear and uncertainty against a being to weaken them greatly within the world of dreams. Here, they can dominate a person and even kill, if one dies within a dream they die in the mortal world. Dream catchers, like dream chasers, can be identified by a medallion or a tattoo bearing the symbol of Meaje, a tree burning with black flames on a field of white. Meaje often grants the right to walk the world again, either as a spirit or a being of dreams transferred into the mortal world through gateways within Tahlrad, to those most faithful and useful to him. Meaje resides within Ilysias in a realm known as Sha-Zacaera, the dark tomb. The realm is a dark world littered with the lost dreams of mortals and the souls bound here through a death in Tahlrad. Mortal nightmares are tied to Sha-Zacaera and fill it, creating a distinct, ever changing environment beyond the constant black. Hideously cruel beings and shadowed recesses of despair torture the minds of anyone crossing into the realm. Once a pact with a mortal being has been reached, Michael will aid that mortal in the completion of his end of the deal. He can influence changes in the moral fabric of the physical world that will favor those he has set an agreement with. His methods are based in the manipulation of existing morals, attempting to deprive individuals and empires of true virtue as it gives him power and he will push for any he is in league with to achieve these goals. Michael appears as a humanoid male with long, snow white hair, soulless, black eyes, and an enormous wingspan of gray feathers. Naenri Naenri was the ruling female dragon when the clan returned to Talliaen from its imprisonment within Ilysias. She was among the first dragons created through the release of Othrum Elendrew’s energy throughout Talliaen. It is believed that she was the mother to the true bloodline of the ancient dragons, mothering powerful, majestic dragons until the true line was destroyed with the birth of Shai-Laur and Bartholomew. Naenri was destroyed while in a weakened state by Bartholomew shortly after birthing him and Shai-Laur in 22,493b. She was a large dragon, strong in will and blessed with magics that have not existed in the world since. He will seldom involve himself in actual war and typically handles his manipulation of events behind the scene. His methods are based in utter destruction and through despair as they both give him power and he will push for any he is in league with to achieve these goals. Odaku appears as a humanoid male with burnt, scarred skin, dark red eyes, long, black hair, and giant wings of reddish brown feathers. He is always garbed in white raiment and wields a double bladed battle axe known as Oliod, the shattering blade. Olanuk Olanuk is a six foot, two handed sword wielded by the angel Leywen. The sword’s blade is black, swirling with what appears to be millions of tiny stars. This is due to the fact that it was crafted by Keiya from the universe itself. The crossguard is small, a gold star extending outward to only four points, two large points from the left to the right and two small points from the bottom to the top. The weapon’s pommel is long, capped with a gold triangle and wrapped in a worn, dried leather. Oliod Oliod is a double bladed battle axe of immense, universal power wielded by the demon Odaku. The axe stands approximately six feet in height with a span of nearly three feet from the outermost curve of each of the razor sharp blades. The staff is crafted from a dark, almost black wood that is attached to the opposing blades by a silver and gold, webbed crossing. Each blade appears as if it has been shaped from the universe, black and littered with the stars and galaxies. Any mortal being struck by the axe and not immediately slain will be poisoned with a dark power that will eventually lead to a violently brutal madness. Ollorna, Lanau (11,700b-???) Daughter of Ollorna Aurela born in 11,700b. She became the queen of the r’kian in 10,801b with the death of her mother and chooses not to name a vaur, remaining the only queen not to have done so. She assumes a physical role in the military action against the League of the Dragon during the Thousand Year War. Leaving the r’kian officers in command of their forces and having them begin a direct assault upon the dragon clan, she takes leadership of a second force and separately attacks the ealam. The dividing of the armies belonging to the League of the Dragon is successful and the r’kian and dwarfs defeat their enemies in 10,801b, bringing an end to the Thousand Year War. Lanau Ollorna gives up the throne in 10,705b and names her cousin, Aevora, queen. She went into exile after stepping down and was lost to history. Olusia Olusia is the queen of the sylphs. She is in possession of every aspect of sylph magic and can take on the appearance and characteristics of each archetype. She is the mistress to Othrum Elendrew, the god of magic, and is the mother to Aldarion and Eimaj. Through her loins, the ealam, r’kian, and elves all came into being. Oraes Oraes is the realm of Eligh Leral, the god of vengeance, retribution, and wine. It is a madly, erratic realm filled with the souls of those tormented in life by deep, unresolved feelings of vengeance. It is believed that these souls cannot ever be at peace and are therefore unable to stand before Eadil in judgment until justice in their behalf has been reached upon the mortal world. Insanity inevitably overcomes any mortal being that may find its way into Oraes. It is very unpleasant, dark and scattered with the agonizing screams of the souls residing inside. Oraen Knights Angels in the service of Eligh Leral. Oraen Knights appear as warriors garbed in black, plate armor. They are sent by Eligh Leral to avenge the heavens. A knight will hunt the world for the individual it was sent for until it either avenges the wronged god or is killed. Only the intended’s weapons can do harm to an Oraen Knight, all other weapons will pass harmlessly through its armored form. It is believed that if the intended is guilty they will be struck down in combat with the knight and if they are innocent the knight will be killed in combat. The knight’s only weapon is a black sword with a poisoned blade. If anyone is struck by the blade they are doomed to die in madness. Defeating a knight will cause it to vanish, leaving its sword to the intended as a gift of apology. The sword may be used by that being until their death, at which time the sword will simply vanish. If an attended is struck by the sword but manages to defeat the knight, he is given the sword as a means to slow the madness that is still inherited. All others struck by the weapon will die from horrible infections and irreconcilable madness. Ordained Executions In 10,431b the ealam, claiming that they were ordered by the heavens to end the fight over magic permanently, began a six year period of slaying all r’kian in possession of great power. The r’kian, claiming that they were instructed by the heavens to eliminate all others with the use of the ancient, god like magic that remained from the creation of the world, retaliated in open execution of the ealam. Both races set about the extermination of wizards and sorceresses with such zeal that they nearly brought an end to each line of ancient power and severely crippled their existences. Most magical artifacts vanished during this time, collected and hid away from the remainder of the world. The ordained executions ended with the end of the Magic War in 10,425b. Othrum Elendrew Othrum Elendrew is the god of magic and the father of all things born of magic, both good and evil. It is believed that he charged Talliaen with a generous portion of his essence, creating a new form of energy that began to manifest itself within almost every aspect of the world. This energy, later known to be magic, was responsible for the creation of many new forms of life across Talliaen, predominantly the dragons and the sylphs. The dragons and sylphs drew upon the elemental magic of the world to become its almost god like rulers. In time the dragon clans turned against the heavens and sided with Jornaum during the Kialle-Poryae. After the end of the war in heaven, Othrum Elendrew, saddened by the failures of his creations, wondered Talliaen in search of sort of redemption. He eventually fell in love with a female sylph and fathered twin sons, Eimaj and Aldarion. From his two sons came the three most powerful magic born races of Talliaen, the ealam, r’kian, and elves. Othrum Elendrew is responsible for the creation of Pilendresh, the realm in Veshaun reserved for the souls of the magic born. Aldarion was slain by his twin brother Eimaj and a deal was struck with Elai-Naemon, god of the dead, to return him to life. The bargain would allow Elai-Naemon, who did not previously have the right, to claim the souls of the magic born upon their death in exchange for returning Aldarion to the realm of the living. There is a single religion associated with Othrum Elendrew, Mageism. Mageism is the worship of Othrum Elendrew through the use of magic. Mageists are known as mages and the only true mages, good or evil, are those that worship or serve the creator of magic. There are not any holy days given to mageism and its churches are known as mage temples. Violence is not permitted within these temples under any conditions, a policy respected by all on Talliaen, but services for war or any other undertaking can be negotiated for and bought through the mage father of any temple. The temples are ruled unquestionably by its mage father who is always a male and unwed, but can be of any race or lawful intent. Mageists wear a medallion to identify themselves known as a juy. The juy is a metal crescent lined with small notches that mark each year of a mage’s life. The notches are traditionally marked on the same day each year by the mage father of that being’s temple of service. The juy stands as a sign of a mage’s power and endurance. Respect is extremely important to mages and the loss of a medallion before burial signifies the loss of eternal rewards. Othrum Elendrew resides in the Place of Kalmaer in a realm known as Foshan Tai. In this realm all forms of magic exist and are cared for by Othrum Elendrew and his chosen angels, working to serve the best interests of those magics. A great library, detailing the possibilities of every spell ever attempted, stand at the heart of Foshan Tai. This library is carefully guarded and access to the books stored here is limited to Othrum Elendrew, his chosen angels, and any being the god of magic allows to enter. When any tome inscribed with a spell is opened the magic within the book will reveal itself to the world of Talliaen. Othrum Elendrew is generally depicted as an ancient, r’kian male in dark blue robes always with a maple staff carved in the shape of two twisting dragons, seemingly engaged in a great battle. The staff is topped with an orb detailing Talliaen in every way. P Palace of Denor The Palace of Denor was built in 27,635b to serve as the seat of power for the magic-born. It was shaped from the cliffs of the Eshur mountains and was a focus for the ancient magic that was within the world at the time. Denor is rumored to hold gateways to the realms of the gods, small portions of those realms being incorporated into the actual construction of the palace. It was through these gateways that beings could travel between Talliaen, Ilysias, and Kalmaer. The palace is crafted from the rock walls of the actual mountain range, smoothed out, hollowed, and shaped to form a beautifully brilliant dwelling. The Palace of Denor was lost to the world of mortals after the separation of Eimaj and Aldarion. It is a place of rumor and intrigue as finding it is believed to offer the potential of unimaginable riches and ultimate power. Palace of Kalmaer A large palace built by Ereom, the One-God, in the heart of the sun known as Ajaesakos after the Kialle-Poryae. It is here that the gods reside when they return from exile every thousand years. They remain her for a period of fifty years, during which time judgment is passed on the souls of the dead and the gods themselves take an active role within the world of Talliaen. The palace was created from materials from the nearby universe and, though exceptionally grand in appearance, does not possess all the beauty and riches of the Tower of Lords. The palace was built with the same makeup of the tower, having a floor for each god and a portion of that god’s realm located upon his/her floor. Angels always remain within the palace, serving the wishes and advancing the beliefs of the gods they serve. Pea Berries The black berries that grow upon a pea tree. The berries reduce fatigue and have the ability to significantly heal. Pea Tree A rare tree found in the high altitudes of the mountain ranges of Talliaen. The trees only grow a few feet in height and are distinguished by its small tooth edged leaves. It is upon this tree that the rejuvenating pea berries can be found. Pilendresh Pilendresh is the realm within Veshaun reserved for the souls of the magic-born. It was created when life was given back to Aldarion, the son of Othrum-Elendrew, by Elai-Naemon. Those souls not taken into service by their chosen god are sent here to spend eternity in either punishment or pleasure, according to their final judgment. Prophecies of Heaven The Prophecies of Heaven are one of the epics of Talliaen. It was written in 21,345b by unknown r’kian authors. The only known physical copy of the original book was discovered in 795b during the excavation of Secauru. The book details ancient r’kian prophecy and makes an attempt to decipher what those prophecies may mean and what effects they may have on the boundaries of the mortal world. Each prophecy is written as it was received and then is followed in the book by several interpretations in an attempt to bring logic to the mystic visions and thoughts of known prophets. Q Queay Queay a prestigious dark temple of Linaehism. It is believed to be the largest monument in existence to Ereom and is located on the southwestern edge of Draeli Island and is protected from the island’s harsh environment by a mystic shield derived through the ancient magic of Talliaen. The temple is crafted of black stone mined within the Western Spikes and is clearly visible from great distances as it stands out brilliantly against the deep yellow sand of the Golden Sea. There are no settlements upon the island of Draeli, other than the temples, and all foods and water come from mystically devised means within the temple itself. Quiel The god of the trolls. He sided with Jornaum against the heavens during the Kialle-Poryae and, being terribly wounded, was forced to combine his essence with that of the Triel, the god of the goblins. Quiel is accredited with bringing the troll race into being and for granting them the ravaging anger, unquenched hatred, perilous greed, and strength and endurance that marks their existence. R Raemal The sixteen, brightly burning stars inlaid within the arms, legs, and back of the Throne of Ereom. The throne is outlined by these stars and is visible in the nighttime sky over Talliaen during the months of Erom, Elein, and Lyaes. Raen The god of the dwarves. He sided with Jornaum during the Kialle-Poryae and, being terribly wounded, was forced to combine his essence with that of the god Uel. Raen is accredited with bringing the dwarven race into being. He is worshipped by the dwarf clans as the dark father. Raen-Uel Raen-Uel is the god of the dwarfs and of dark traits; greed, envy, hate, despair, and fear. He is worshipped by the dwarf clans as the dark father. The dwarfs believe that he is the true creator and is responsible for all of the traits associated with their darker side. Legend claims that it is he that built Ueshain, the kingdom under the mountain, and brought the dwarfs into existence so that a war-king may sit upon its throne. Raen-Uel is the combined essences of Raen, the god of the dwarfs, and Uel, the god of dark traits. During the Kialle-Poryae both gods, siding with Jornaum against the heavens, were greatly injured and Uel offered what remained of his essence to Raen so that they both might live. After the two were joined their responsibilities and powers became shared within a single being. Raen-Uel was exiled from Linaeus and imprisoned within Ilysias with the rest of the fallen. There is not any worship of Raen-Uel outside the dwarf clans and he is worshipped by few among them. His followers make sacrifices to him once a year on the day known as Uemael, on the fourteenth day of Almaer. On this day the followers of Raen-Uel offer him precious jewels and metals they have collected throughout the year. These offerings are done at temples that have been carved into mountain cliffs, hidden away securely from the casual eye. The temples are giant, half circle platforms with a circular hot spring pool at either end. Anyone making an offering must bathe in each pool and then place the items they intend to offer, once they have been cleansed with a blood ritual, into a burial pit on the outskirts of the temple. Raen-Uel resides in the Palace of Kalmaer in a realm known as Enura. Enura is a dark world hidden within the Ilysian pits. He rules there as the war-king to all those who have freely given their souls to him. These souls will gather through eternity until their number is great enough to once again challenge the rule of Ereom over the heavens. Raen-Uel’s chosen angels serve him by corrupting and bringing the greatest dwarven warriors into his fold. He is commonly depicted as an elderly dwarf male with great strength, long, silver hair and beard, and he brandishes a black war hammer, Ukora, stained in blood. Rala-Al-Ejeul Rala-Al-Ejeul is the palace of Jornaum, originally built as the Temple of Jornaum in 15,995b, when he rules as the dead king in the mortal realm. The palace is on the island Dara-Akua and is a massive complex. Its inner make up is that of a tremendous mountain of black rock topped with six white towers and surrounded by a towering outer wall made from bone and sun dried clay. It lies deep within the decaying forest known as Graywood and sits amidst an area covered in treacherous swamps. It is from this palace that Jornaum rules over his evil kingdom and where his power sits when he has taken a physical form and returned to Talliaen. According to legend, the temple reaches down to the center of the world where it’s magic is at its greatest power. Within the castle, Jornaum created a portal that allows for travel to and from Ilysias, circumventing the protection that the guardian angels offer to the three realms of existence. Ranara Ranara is the realm within Veshaun reserved for the souls of the dwarves. Those souls not taken into service by their chosen god are sent here to spend eternity in either punishment or pleasure, according to their final judgment. Randomism The belief that Laera-Madeas has sway in the events of chance, but the final results of all events are ultimately left up to random interpretation. Though probability can be calculated to some degree of certainty, the improbable is always there on the fringes and can, at any moment, insert itself. Randomist-name given to the followers of randomism. Rashaen Rashaen is the eighth and final month of the year and consists of twenty seven days. It is the second month of the fall and, though generally warm through most of the month, it begins showing signs of the coming winter near its end. The more warmth that remains within Talliaen during the course of Rashaen, the less brutal the winter will be. Rayl-Shre (???-11,267b) Rayl-Shre was the mate of Ollorna Aurela and vaur of the r’kian. He was named vaur in 12,698b and served in that position until his death during the Battle of Don-Anuk in 11,267b. He was an admired military leader and stood at the Don-Anuk and held back the armies of the League of the Dragon for three weeks before reinforcements arrived and the threat was exterminated. This stand by Rayl-Shre is believed to have led him into a heavenly immortality, as it was reported that the gods took his dead body from the world in a flash of burning light. His tactics and leadership skills have remained the basis for military training within the r’kian race since his time as vaur. He was of strong will, resolve of morale strength, unsurpassed military thought, and has been regarded as example of the noble r’kian essence. Redala Redala is the goddess of music and dancing. She is one of three daughters of Alysa, goddess of the arts, and Si, the keeper of dreams. Redala is said to endow the gifts of musical ability upon those she chooses. It is believed that anyone possessing extraordinary talents in the realm of music has had their soul touched by Redala or one of her chosen angels at their moment of birth. Though she does have free will, she answers to the commands and requests of both her mother and he father as they allow her almost complete control over the gifts of music and dance. There is a single religious group associated with Redala, the hadra or soul dancers. The hadra do not worship Redala as a god, instead they look upon her as a soul inhabiting essence that bestows mortals with the music of the heavens. They honor Redala with the performance known as dancing the souls. In this dance individuals place themselves into a deep trance and allow their inner self to assume control over their body and they reveal their spirit through a wild and very erotic dance. All members of the hadra are proficient with both the harp and the flute as they believe that these are Redala’s instruments of choice. Redala resides in the Palace of Kalmaer in a realm known as Argaen. Argaen is a world filled with the music of harps and angelic choirs. The realm is littered with silver pools that emit chiming notes when they are disturbed. The Argaen pools are believed to be the source of power for Redala’s chosen angels. The angels bathe in them each time before they leave and upon their return to Argaen. Redala is commonly depicted as an elderly female with long, white hair, dark, wrinkled skin, and is always in raiment with the colors orange, red, and yellow somewhere on it. Renalk Renalk was the alpha dragon when the clan returned to Talliaen from its imprisonment within Ilysias. He immediately asserted his control over the dragons that had not been banished by the gods and reformed the ancient dragon clan returning it to its prestige within the mortal world. He was among the first dragons created through the release of Othrum Elendrew’s energy throughout Talliaen. It is believed that he is the true bloodline of the ancient dragons, fathering many powerful, majestic dragons until the true line was destroyed with the birth of Shai-Laur and Bartholomew. Renalk was destroyed during combat challenge in 17,231b with the dragon Bartholomew. He was a tremendously large dragon, endowed with muscular legs, a long, wide tail, and wings that had a span nearly twice as long as his entire body. The scales over his body were of a shiny, dark blue tint with pale blue stomach plating. Thick leathery sheeting stretched across his wing limbs, his claws were of whitened silver, his giant, gaping maw was filled with large razor like teeth, and he had deep set eyes of a fire red color. Renyar Devout followers of Aren, the god of rage and strength. The Renyar take pride in gaining a battle rage, a mystic rage given to the blessed by Aren himself, and often time pursue this deeply religious experience with an uncanny fanaticism. Mostly warriors and knights, the Renyar do not celebrate any set holy days, instead using each battle they encounter as a holy tribute to their god. The blood of the dead is drank immediately after battles and bodies of the slain are generally impaled upon large stakes on battlefields and raised up to decompose within the sun. By doing this, they believe that Aren will bless them and grant them his gift of battle rage. Members are exposed to several mind altering drugs during a lengthy induction process, usually lasting three to four years. These drugs, very heavily used during this period, allows the Reynar to enter a state of mind that grants Aren control over their actions and enhances their fighting capabilities. Right of choosing The right given to those of rank to adopt a child that is not theirs into their home even over its parent’s wishes. The child is usually adopted into an estate and given rank and title. Rijuan Rindua Rindua is the realm of Kellen, the angel of ill luck. It is a world of ash and flame, hot and filled with a thick haze of blackened smoke and tortured screams of lost souls. Rindua is and entryway into the world of mortals on Talliaen. Kellen and his chosen angels have the ability to cross through the divide between the two worlds and spread discontent and ill luck across mortal lives. R’kian One of the oldest races on Talliaen. The word r’kian means forsaken in the ancient language. The race is of the magic born, with a sylph lineage, and was fathered by Aldarion, the twin brother of Eimaj and son of Othrum-Elendrew. The r’kian are kin to both the ealam and the elves and came into being after Aldarion was murdered by his brother, Eimaj, and Othrum-Elendrew struck a deal with Elai-Naemon to return Aldarion to the living. After his soul was allowed to return to his body, he broke attachments to his brother and through his loins the r’kian race was begun. The r’kian have a silvery hue to their skin, small rounded ears, muscular bodies, amber eyes, and white hair. They are experts in the use of magic, are skilled in the use of most weapons, though they use mainly bows and small knives, and live anywhere from seven hundred to twenty six hundred years. Very isolated and having strong ties to their clans, they typically wear clan colors in their dress and adorn weapons with ribbons bearing those colors. The r’kian travel only by foot, blessed with great stamina, and will never ride an animal of any type unless circumstances dictate otherwise. R’kian Death Vision-see saeti. R’kian & Dwarf War War between the r’kian and dwarfs from 16,921b until 16,877b. The dwarf clans, still rather primitive and untrusting, went to war against the r’kian due to fear of their numbers and powerful magic. The r’kian struggled greatly against the dwarven clans who were fierce warriors possessing great resolve and military ability. The advanced weaponry, use of magic, and sheer numbers shortly turned the war in favor of the r’kian and eventual peace was reached between the two races. The r’kian agreed to assist the clans in alchemy and magic and passed on vast knowledge unavailable to them before that time while the dwarfs agreed to aid in labor and trade in valuable metals and gems with the r’kian. A trust was reached between the two races that allowed both to achieve marvels that had not been witnessed before that time. Room of Knowledge A room hidden within the depths of Baejan that contains all knowledge. Roshfane The weapon wielded by the guardian angel Cameron. Roshfane is an extremely large scythe crafted from the earth of Talliaen and endued with immense power. The blade is silver, covered with a brightly glowing aura and spanning a length of over fifteen feet, and is attached to a ten foot shaft of thick, black granite. Roshfane has the ability to completely destroy the physical essence taken by any god and greatly weakens the magical or cosmic powers of any being within its presence. When the blade of this weapon cuts through the air it sounds as if it is a thousand terrified voices screaming in agony. Rote A small, bowl shaped instrument employing three strings. The rote produces deep, very sensually pleasing notes when played. Ruling Angel The ruling angels were created by Ereom, the one-god, as a means to exert some control over the balance of existence, controlling the presence of chaos. They are beings of pure energy with the ability to take a corporeal form. This physical form is denoted by a silver eye and a gold eye and a ruling angel can be destroyed only while in this form. When destruction actually occurs the existing matter will return to an energy state. Ereom created the rulers as three eternal entities; Bacias, the mediator of chaos, Jerra, the positive half of chaos, and Joris, the negative half of chaos. |
