A love poem translated from the original ghazal in Hindi.
COME NIGH ME: a bilingual poem

Loneliness kills. Come nigh me.
I am forlorn. Come nigh me.

All my joys are gone with you.
No hope is left. Come nigh me.

Waking, my eyes long for you;
In dreams, at least, come nigh me.

This wait is truly endless;
Life is a drag. Come nigh me.

Though the world is full of charm,
My life is dead. Come nigh me.

All seasons hurt without you;
Spring hurts the most. Come nigh me.

Khalish’s heart is torn, insane
I tear my clothes. Come nigh me.

* This is a translation from my original Hindi ghazal given below. It is extremely difficult to translate a ghazal from one language to another in exact ghazal form, maintaining both the monorhyme and the refrain, the difficulty being mainly with the former. The monorhyme has had to be sacrificed during the process of translation. For a note on ghazal form of poetry, please view "WHAT IS A GHAZAL AND HOW TO WRITE IT?Open in new Window..

THE ORIGINAL GHAZAL
