When Forrest the cat runs away from home he finds that theres no other place like it. |
FAMOUS FORREST Forrest was a cat. He was all black except for his front feet and his face which were white. He lived in a house with Mom, Dad and Annie. Forrest was happy in his house with his family. Some times Annie would dress him in a baby bonnet and a doll dress and pour tea for him in a little plastic cup. It wasn't really tea just milk so Forrest really didn't mind at all. He especially loved crawling into bed with her and sleeping in her little bed all night purring. Forrest loved being lazy. He would lie for hours in a warm patch of sunshine on the floor. He also liked sitting on Dad's lap and watching TV. His favorite show was about pets and all their amazing tricks. There were dancing ponies and dogs that jumped through hoops. There were seals that honked horns and cats that walked the high wire. Forrest liked this show because he could do tricks too. He would jump off of Dad's lap and dance in the Living room floor. He'd do back flips and meow to the tune of "You Are My Sunshine". Then the family would clap and tell Forrest what an amazing kitty he was. Forrest was very proud of himself. No other cat could do the tricks he could do. No other dog could either. Yes, Forrest was happy here, but he had one thing he absolutely did not like. He did not like going to the vet. When he went to the vet he got shots. Forrest Did not like shots, they hurt! One day Forrest was being taken to the vet and he knew what was going to happen. He was one unhappy kitty. When Dad opened the car door to take Forrest out, the sneaky cat slipped right past Dad and ran for the bushes. Forrest hid in the bushes for a while until Dad ran for help. Then Forrest ran down the street he was never going to get another shot again! He was going to the studio to be on TV show, Pet Superstars. But Forrest didn't make it that far before the pound picked him up. The pound isn't just for dogs but for stray cats too. That's what the people at the shelter thought Forrest was, a stray. Oh poor Forrest he was all alone and scared in the cage all by himself. He felt miserable. He thought maybe getting a shot wasn't so bad after all. It wasn't too long later that a very loud and very funnily dressed man wearing sunglasses came into the shelter. He said he needed a star for his show and he wanted to look at all the animals there. Forrest was very excited he knew he could be a star. When the man came to his cage he showed him what he could do. Forrest did a back flip and stood on his hind legs and danced. Then when Forrest meowed You Are My Sun Shine the man clapped for joy. “I’ve found my star!" He shouted, “Forrest I'm going to make you famous!" The man took Forrest with him in a little cat carrier. Their first stop was the vet, where Forrest got his shot. He did not like this. Ten they went to the pet-groomers where Forrest got a bath and a hair trim. He did not like this either. Maybe he didn't want to be famous after all. When they got to the studio the man let Forrest out of his cage and gave him to a lady who was called 'The Trainer". She had Forrest do all his tricks all over again. She clapped her hands and gave Forrest a treat. She scratched his ears and told him he was a good kitty. She told the man that Forrest was going to be on a TV show called Pet Super Stars. That night they put Forrest on a stage in front of a camera to do his tricks. He sang and danced and did back flips and every body cheered and clapped and called him a star. Forrest took a bow he was happy. Forrest was Famous. The Trainer thought Forrest needed to learn some new tricks. She taught him how to walk a tight rope and jump through rings of fire. She taught him new songs to sing and new dances to do. Forrest worked very hard and learned every thing. Every night he would go on stage in front of all the people and the cameras and do his tricks. The people would clap and cheer and call his name. Then Forrest would bow and bow to thank them. After the show every night Forrest was put in a room with a comfortable bed and scratch posts and toys and all the cat nip he could want and lots of good food. He was a star and they wanted him to be happy so he would do his tricks and make the people cheer. So the studio and The Trainer gave him every thing he could want. Every day he had to practice and learn new tricks. Every night he did them for all the people in front of the cameras. Every time they cheered and cheered and called his name Oh Forrest was so famous! Every body loved him. So was Forrest happy? No he was not. He worked so hard all day practicing and doing tricks for the people he was too tired. He couldn't play with his toys because he was tired. He couldn’t scratch his posts because he was so tired. He didn’t enjoy all his good food because he was so tired! And at the end of his very long day he was SO tired he just flopped into his big comfortable bed and falls fast asleep. He began to miss his family. He missed Mom and Dad. He missed his warm patch of sunshine on the floor and the cozy spot by the fire. He especially missed Annie. He even missed having her dress him in doll clothes and a bonnet. He missed having tea parties with milk. He wondered if they missed him. He was miserable, even more miserable than when he was at the shelter. He was lonely too. He missed curling up in the soft little bed with his little girl and sleeping beside her. Forrest was famous but Forrest just wanted to go home. But the studio would not let him go. They wanted him to stay and work for them. They wanted him to keep doing his tricks for the crowds of people. So Forrest stayed, but he really wished to go home. He wished it with all his heart. One day when Forrest was on stage doing his tricks he saw a familiar face in the crowd. He saw three familiar faces! It was Mom, and Dad and Annie. They did miss him! Oh Forrest was so happy he did his best tricks for them and sang his very best songs. When the show was over his Family came to his room to see him. "Forrest" they said, “You’re famous!" Forrest was tired but he was happier than he had been in a long, long time. He purred and kissed his family he missed them so much. Annie started to cry because she missed him SO much. Her poor little heart was broken when it was time for them to go home. They thought Forrest was happy being famous and thought that he wan6ted to stay at the studio. Annie cried even louder. She told The Trainer;" That's my Kitty and I want to take him home!" Forrest jumped into Annie’s arms and purred. He wanted to go home too. He didn't want to be famous any more. The Trainer took off his fancy collar and smiled Go home Forrest" She said,” Your family misses you. " And from that day on Forrest never left home again. He lay in his warm patch of sunshine every afternoon and dozed by the fire in the winter. He curled up with Annie every night and slept in her little bed. He didn't mind being dressed up in doll clothes anymore. He even let Annie push him around the yard in a little buggy. He still enjoyed his tea parties with milk and cuddling on the couch to watch TV with Dad. Forrest was home. He was happy to be there. Some times the family wondered if he missed being famous. But we know he didn't. THE END |
