Burned, charred, and risen from the ashes.
A child is born
Unwanted, alone;
She’s seen as a burden,
No place to call home

The rage, the fury
She's done it again
This time will be different
This time it will end.

The pain, the screaming
She can't seem to stop
Her skin is on fire
The water's too hot

The itching, the pain
Alone in the room
The hospital’s scary;
It seems like a tomb

The sorrow, the tears
Unwanted again
Her obvious scars
Make friendship a strain

The hardship, the struggles
It all seems in vain
Happiness is something
She's learned how to feign

The laughing, the crying
He's broken her shell
Now she has confidence
Her fears he did quell

The smiling, the joy
Mine now becomes ours
The love of her life
Doesn't care about the scars

Through tragedy and abuse, I've managed to come through. Not only am I truly a survivor, but I have been able to blossom and excel. My husband has been instrumental as of late in restoring my ever-wavering self-confidence. I've endured abuse, surgeries, foster care, adoption, and more loss. Despite my past traumas, I've been able to rise above it, and now work as a tech in the local Burn Unit in an attempt to help new burn survivors through their own experiences.
