My thoughts about my mother who has advanced Alzheimers and barely remembers who I am.

Looking Back

You once were the backbone
of our very large family.
Doling out motherly advice,
mashed potatoes, and bandaids.

Encouraging and mentoring seven
girls and one boy through life
takes its toll on a lady.

Each of us grown now
living adult lives.
proud of the lessons you taught.
Respect, politeness, courage
and so much more.

Now, I stare into your blank eyes
searching for the lost soul
searching for the amazing woman
I once knew.

Looking Back...
I realize you gave all you had,
Now you need my advice and strong arms
As this disease takes over more and more
of who you were.
