What are the makings of a good family man?
Must he always show and do the best he can?
You see Dad never gambled, cheated, or lied.
Always faced many burdens and never cried.

What are the makings of a good family man?
When I was an young boy I didn't understand.
All though it was a struggle from day after day.
To feed and raise his family with his little pay.


How my friends had more riches in their hand.
So what are the makings of a good family man?
All my memories take me back now I can see.
Dad's burdens were great and stood like a tree.


Do all these assets make a good family man?
Before me lies Dad that very same family man.
My dad always put his family first in every way.
He worked every day for a laborer's small pay.


Before they lay Dad below six feet under ground.
I wanted him to know the new respect I've found.
I will always cherish the love he had for his son.
I'll always respect this great man above everyone.
