Natural Music

If you know how to look,
Or listen,
Or feel.
You’ll find that there’s
Music and poetry and art
All around.

There’s obvious things like
The song of the whale
Or the chirping of birds,
But try listening too,
To the buzzing of bees,
The rushing or water
In a burbling brook;
The rustle of rushes or corn.
Or watch as the butterflies
Dance through the sky,
In the sun of a still summer morn.

Try lying flat on a clear windy day
And watch as the clouds scurry by,
Or sit on a beach as the waves lap the shore,
Making patterns of art in the sand.
The leap of a salmon,
Trailing drips through the air,
Has a grace unsurpassed by man,
For when nature gives gifts
Of music or verse or
The ability to put down an image in paint,
It always makes sure
That it still keep the best for itself.

So open your eyes
And your heart
And your mind,
When you next take a look at your world,
And look for the art
And the music
And song,
In the things and the people around you,
And you’ll find that
Your life will be richer,
For those who can feel it
Can give so much more
And with nature, who gives will receive.
