US, DEMOCRATIC!—award winner



O, US, democratic,
Based on universal vote,
Why, at all, you in the world,
Do dictatorships promote?

O, US, superpower,
Human rights you do defend;
But your own acts of torture,
Those principles do offend.

O, US, guzzler of oil,
From the countries Arabic;
Why, in order to rule them,
You should be so barbaric?

• Originally written as item 839143 in 6-6-8-6 format for Finnorua’s poetry contest, "Invalid Item" , where it won special mention award . Later it was modified into 7-6-7-6 format and posted as item 847222, which was deleted 23 March 2005 and this poem was included as entry 336421 in WAR POETRY , "WAR POETRY--award winner" . Re-posted as static item on 25 July 2007.
