Let It Go

First the tears
That roll swiftly down the worn surface of my face
Carrying the pain
That I've sheltered for so long.
Next the shallow breaths
That escape my lungs
Breaking the chains of regret
That have held me back all my life.
And lastly, the sigh of relief
Symbolic of the realization
That my tears will dry,
That my pain will subside,
That my breath will be caught,
That my regret will disappear,
That my fears will be conquered,
And that the negativity I've survived
Will be left behind.
Today is the day that I let it all go.
