The pain of growing old.
“How this time has come to be?” is a question you may ask,
Feeling and believing that you’re honoring a task.
“What has happened to bring you here?” I’ve heard so many say,
With a voice full of fear as they come to me this way.

But my story is not the sad one that many may expect.
I wasn’t always hunched like this and once I stood erect.
But time it takes its toll on all and brings them to despair,
And it really was the same with me so don’t pretend you care.

Like the autumn leaf that lies crumbled on the ground,
What my soul does speak is a whisper of a sound.
Never-ending heartache and a life so full of pain,
Leads a man to this place where freedom is his shame.

For time is like a hunter that turns your heart to coal.
Time is like the dinner that never leaves you full.
We keep on wanting more of it until there is no more.
For time is not as endless as it may have seemed before.

Time can be a river that eats away your mind,
And time can be the long lost love you never hoped to find.
But time it will not leave you alone without a friend,
For time it will pursue you until the final end.

So do not look upon me and think of me like that,
Time will take its toll on you and drop you on the mat.
For it will come to pass when time will reach its goal,
And take me in its icy grip and there whither my soul.
