This a poem I wrote recently for my adopted sister on her birthday. |
The first time that I met you, we were just five years old Excitedly I envisioned how our first encounter would unfold I’ll never forget when you stepped into our house that first time Little did I know our lives would soon be more closely intertwined Bright-eyed and smiling, you walked through our door that day With your bubbly personality, I liked you in every way I knew we’d become good friends, for you were fun to be around For hours we played and played; we got along well, I found. Our family fell in love with you and my sister you soon became You completed us; without you, our family would not be the same Immense joy you brought to our lives such that words can not express You filled a special place in our hearts; with you we were truly blessed I thanked God that to our family a wonderful addition He did send For not only had I gained a sister, but much more than that, a friend. As the years passed by, I took comfort in knowing you were always by my side Growing up, there was not one ounce of doubt that in you I could confide From double-dating to twirling flags, we were together quite a bit The memories we have created over the years are infinite. We’ve always gotten along though we’re as different as night and day You possess qualities I admire, and I look up to you in many ways You truly have a way with people, of making them feel at ease Your friendliness and compassion never seem to cease Your lively, carefree spirit is refreshing and contagious You are outgoing, pleasant, agreeable, and courageous I’ve never met a person with a bigger heart than you A fantastic friend you are- loyal, caring, and true. Now you’ve graduated from high school; a new chapter has just begun A journey filled with responsibility, with more memories and more fun So vast are God’s plans for you if you’ll only trust in His way That the Lord’s will be done in your life- this I consistently pray. Though we’ve grown older and our lives have assumed new paths As sisters, we have established a bond that will forever last I praise God, for to our family an amazing person He did send Jess, you’re more than a sister, you’re a best friend. |
