Thunder Clouds He walked into the bar one night And grabbed himself a chair, Ordered up a beer-but seemed like he wasn't quite all there. His eyes, they had a far away look, His mouth set drawn and grim. We all wondered where Miss Mandy was— Cause she always was with him. Thunder clouds were building up- You could feel the pressure change- And lightning bolts were striking Everywhere in range… Yeah thunder clouds were building up And it all seemed mighty strange. She came in through the back door As the band began to play She just stood there in the darkness Watching him across the way. It seemed as if he knew that she Was in the bar that night, But he never turned nor looked to see And we knew something wasn’t right. She took a step but changed her mind- Seemed frozen there in place. Something big was going on You could see it in her face. Thunder clouds were roiling now You could hear ‘em above the band, And lighting strikes were flashing forth-- This was getting out of hand. Yeah thunder clouds were roiling now Almost drowning out the band. Around the floor some people danced To a two-step fast and sweet And others clapped and stomped along Keeping with the beat. He finally turned to look at her And their eyes met across the floor. She smiled back, with a hopeful look But he stood and headed for the door. Thunder clouds were streaming hail Mixed in with pouring rain. Thunder clouded thoughts that night Just adding to the strain. Yeah thunder clouds were spitting mad Hail stones of sorrow and of pain. Then the band switched to a love song-- The one we knew was ‘theirs.’ He hesitated, turned around She stopped amid the stares. He smiled then, held out his hand And she joined him in the dance Looks flashed across their faces And we knew they had a chance. Thunder clouds parted showing stars As they took two steps, holding tight. Lighting flashes flashing now Were the kind that ease folks through the night. Yeah thunder clouds gave way to stars A world washed clean goes down to night. |
