a brief reflection on communication between neighbours |
Apart from family relationships I believe that getting along in a community or even with your next door neighbour is very important as it serves as a basis for long-term understanding and friendship. Let me give you an example. The other day I was mowing my lawn with my electric lawnmower and accidentally I cut the extension cord by putting the electric lawnmower on it. I swore under my breath and was reflecting on what I should do next when I heard a voice from my neighbour 2 doors down asking me "if by any chance I had just cut my extension cord"!! This neighbour is a fabulously helpful guy, can do anything in the house and apparently can interpret any sound outside - in this case it happened his interpretation of what I had done was "spot on"!! He offered to lend me his while he repaired mine. When I arrived at his house, he was preparing a barbeque and before I knew it he had prepared a plate of gorgeous bbq goodies and a lovely glass of Chardonney wine!! His family were sitting around the table and there was a great atmosphere. The only problem was that my husband was due home for lunch and we had made some plans for the afternoon so I had to quickly eat and get back to the house in time to give my hubby something to eat - I didn't have my mobile so no doubt he couldn't have known where I was!! Moral of this story: he/she who cuts cord is never bored!!! |
