Waubay, South Dakota is a small town on highway 12.The town is west of interstate 29. Waubay has a grocery store, post office, bank, library, school, two body shops and some bars and they have a boys and girls club. There is also two motels on the highway and there are some lodges in town. Wildlife is abundant and is a great place for bird watching. Bald Eagles, Whooping Cranes, and Pheasants are just a few. There is also a fish hatchery it is called Blue Dog State Fish Hatchery. The hatchery is located on the northwest corner of Blue Dog Lake, where there is abundant high-quality ground and lake water. The building contains a visitor center and aquaria, informative displays. Two hiking trails are also located on the hatchery complex. One trail provides a view of the raceways and rearing ponds, and the other wanders along the lakeshore and through a marsh ecosystem. Waubay is located next to several lakes and is a favorite spot for fishermen. Walleye are very common in the nearby lakes. When winter comes the fisherman go out on the lakes and go ice fishing. This is a real nice little town for a country type vacation. |
