reminder of the loss America has sacraficed to make it possible for us to live free lives |
The Sound of Freedom The almost silent jets blast by overhead a small dark hair boy swings open the front door and bounces down the steps. He stops in the yard beside me; he gazes up at the sky trying to catch a glimpse of the jets before they are out of sight. The almost deafening sound of a sonic bomb rumbles through the sky for miles. The startling sound makes me jump, and then the young boy looks at me “That’s the sound of freedom.” He says with a confident look on his face. He scampers off into the house and slams the screen door behind him. The small boy is innocent and has no idea what a patriotic statement he has just told me. He does realize though what he has said is somehow important and means something. This startling sound to me now is a reminder of those that have fallen, paid the ultimate price for my freedom. It takes a rare breed to have the courage, braveness and nerves of steel to fill the shoes of a soldier. These brave souls guard our home land and make it possible for us to live free lives. Every soldier that has fallen was someone’s mother, father, son, daughter, brother or sister. They have all paid the highest price there is. For some of us to be so ungrateful to not respect the ones who are so brave we should be ashamed. The ones who risk their lives and the ones who were not so lucky and lost their lives are those who have paved the way for our freedom. The next time you hear a sonic boom ring out from the sky remember that’s the sound of freedom. Dedicated to Jeffery Hall Written by April Hall |
