This is a short story based on a dream that I overheard from my boyfriend while he slept.
Looking down into the crib, he noticed that the resemblance between he and his son was uncanny.  For a second time in his life, he a person was made whole.  Smiling he whispered, “So this is what love can do.”  He had it all.  As soon as that thought left his mind, the child’s mother walked into the nursery.  She looked into his eyes and held his hand.  Together they looked at what the love and passion they felt for each other had created.  A new life blessed in life, love, and his name was welcomed into this world with open and willing arms.  In the baby, they both saw a bit of themselves.
Picking him up in her arms, she handed him to his father.  A looked of pride and sheer joy gleamed in his eyes.  He was amazed at the perfection of his son; their son.  He has the color of her skin and her hazel eyes but everything else was all him.  Would he grow to have his mischievous childhood personality?  Would he play basketball like his mother or football like him? Would he be artistic in nature?  All of these questions and more would go unanswered for months to come.
Looking at his wife, he noticed that she was blushing.  She had a look on her face that he knew too well.  She held a wonderful secret inside of her.  Without any hesitation, she walked over to him, and took the baby in her arms and placed him back into the crib.  Then she took her husband’s hand and placed it on a soft, raised spot under her navel.  He stared at her with amaze and bewilderment as she blushed harder.  He picked her up and spun her around.  She squealed as he sat her down.  His eyes said everything as he kissed her.  He held her in his arms as he said a prayer of thanks.  His life at this moment in time, was perfect.
