I'm not sure I want to do this so please read and comment. Sincere thanks.
My wonderful friend, Evelyn picked me up at about 8:00 and off we went.  During the ride  Evelyn tried to be both compassionate and cheerful but I was determined that it was not to be;  I rode in stony silence the whole way.  Evelyn settled down with a magazine while I made my way down the long hall like a condemned woman.  (I really was developing a flair for dramatics!)

My oncologist, Dr. B, examined me and  then introduced me to Bethany.  Bethany was a specially trained RN who would administer all of my chemo treatments.  Like Evelyn , this poor woman tried and tried to cheer me up but I would not have it.  Much to my surprise, the treatment began and ended without incident.  It did, however, take some time and I began to worry about  Evelyn  sitting in the waiting room so long.

Finally finished, I headed back to the waiting room only to find that Evelyn was not there.  I assumed she was in the ladies' room or had gone outside for some air and was not at all concerned.  I was much too busy worrying about when I would get sick and how sick I would be to focus on anything or anyone else.  As the minutes mounted though I began to think that maybe she just got tired of waiting and left me there.  Nah, I thought  she wouldn't do that.  But, on the other hand, she did have small children and perhaps she couldn't wait any longer.  My thoughts were interrupted when I heard myself being paged.  The receptionist handed  me the phone and I found myself talking to a Dr.  Apparently Evelyn had seen a sign about a blood drive and decided to donate. She  walked over to the next building, donated a pint of blood and promptly fainted!  She was lying down and would pick me up as soon as her vital signs returned to normal.

There are two morals to this story;  don't worry about what may not happen ( I never did get sick) and, when you have an amazing friend like Evelyn, don't assume that she's only amazing for you!!!
