A boy loses his favorite toy...
he scuffed the toe
of dirty shoe.
forlorn, he leaned and spat.
he had searched high and scoured low
for his old wood baseball bat.

it wasn't in his closet
or crammed under his bed.
it wasn't out by grandpas bench
where he showed it off to fred.

it wasn't in the backyard.
mom even checked the pool!
and dad would never EVER let him carry it to school.

he sat and sulked and suddenly
he sprinted down the lane.
he had forgotten carelessly...
he'd left it at the game!
