Retribution

“My life didn’t flash before my eyes like they say it does.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I just watched the floor and listened to the screams.”

“Why didn’t you scream?”

“I wasn’t scared.”

“Hmm…why is that?”

“God was with me.”

“Ah…God.”

“You don’t believe me?”

“Do you believe you?”

“I was the only survivor doc, how do you explain that?”

“How do you explain it?”

“God wanted me to spread the message in my heart.  He protected me from death so that the world would see the light.”

“The light?  What light is that?”

“That God wants everyone on the straight and narrow.”

“So he wants everyone to follow the law?”

“Yes but not the laws of man but the laws of God.”

“Hmm, so what laws does God respect?”

“None written by the evil hearts of man.”

“So the Bible then?”

“Some of it, but only the parts chosen by God.”

“So what parts did God choose?”

“Only those that the world seems to have the most problem with. The seven deadly sins.”

“Deadly? Interesting word choice.”

“Retribution shall be swift, so sayeth the lord.”

“Are you that retribution?”

“I am the messenger.”

“Why you?”

“I am the only one worthy.”

“Hmm…what makes you special?”

“God decreed that I should live when all of the other sinners died.”

“There were only a few on the plane, you happened to be in the lavatory-“

“I was chosen!” was his battle-cry as he dove across the room at the woman. 

Two pairs of rough hands grabbed him from midair just before his head made contact with the doctor’s face.  She shook her head as they dragged him away screaming.  Her hand had clutched at the gold cross she always wore around her neck as a reminder of the God who loved her.
