A very tiny Christmas story.
More Than Song

By:Rusty Cason

High up in the rafters of the stable where I stay,

A miracle occurred that still amazes to this day.

On Christmas Eve, the 24th, amid much stress and strife.

A King was born that changed the course of every human life.

I was there that special night, high up above the door,

And there I witnessed something I had never seen before.

A woman and a man came forth, with no place else to stay.

She came and had her baby in the stable on the hay.

I knew that something magical would happen there that night.

A star shone overhead that lit the darkness with its light.

From all about they came and said, "We've seen the blessed star."

A prophesy was told, that brought the wisest from afar.

They proclaimed him a king and then knelt by his side.

Gifts were given to him, with the greatest of pride.

I watched in childish splendor at the gifts that they did bring,

Ashamed, as I had nothing that was worthy of a king.

I thought for just a moment, then I knew that I was wrong.

I placed my legs together and I played a special song.

While I was just a cricket in the rafters up above,

The gift I gave was small but it was given out of love.

The stables glowed with light as I heard angels sing on high.

I sang along with them until I thought that I would cry.

There are no words to use, no way to speak of what I felt.

I sang and played my song until I thought my heart would melt.

The greatest thing came over me, that night the star shined bright.

I realized my size, had not a thing to do with might.

Christmas Eve will find me where the love-light gleams,

High up in the rafters where the Star of David beams.

So through those rays of light that led to where the infant lay.

My song can still be heard on Eve of every Christmas day.
