Among the Shells

Sleepy ocean laps the shore,
wakened by the piercing cries
of gulls that search the glistening swells
to find their food that God supplies

Gliding swiftly, hovering, still…
persistent in their endless quest
along the beach, among the shells;
seldom do they stop to rest

Sleepy ocean, restful sea;
can words convey your voice to me?
Of God whose hand all wonders made;
and all these less than man…

As my feet now press the sand,
eye upon the glistening swell;
Too long I see, my search has been
along the beach, among the shells…
