A poem of five verses, it is an attempt to describe the concept of music
MUSIC

Music holds no moral, won’t discriminate, or judge,
Though music makes one strong or weak, laugh, cry, hate or love.
Music speaks refreshing truth devoid of implication.
Rhythm; the heart, melody; the voice, tempo; the variation.
Music reveals one’s passion, fuels it, feeds it and sustains.
Music is Mackellar’s land of drought and flooding rains.
But music can divide a pair or split a land in twain.
Yet that piece through wiser eyes can make them whole again.

Gifted is the one soul in whom music does imbue.
Greater is the gift to who inspires a stubborn few.
Music, it invigorates, lends courage to the meek.
Music leaves one breathless yet allows the dumb to speak.
Music, it is colourless yet rainbows steal the show.
Is solace in the heat, warmth when one’s pillow is the snow.
Music is invisible and brings no weight to bear.
Yet the chorus be a hundred weight and the verse as light as air.

In a heartbeat music moves from tempest to a breeze,
And emotion never left behind; it puts the beast at ease.
Music is like life, that it is difficult to master.
Yet a note becomes a symphony; the choir boy the pastor.
Music feeds the hungry, strips the wealthy of their lot.
Makes the wise play second fiddle to the dribble clad naïve tot’,
And in a phrase turns boisterous mirth to weeping and can capture,
Ignorance and create wisdom and turn boredom into rapture.

Music heals the sick and in turn weakens one’s resolve.
Lends strength to shattered will when flesh and bone do fail the bold.
Skilful is the reader who interprets note and phrase.
Likewise is the reader not but listen when he plays.
The one who can do both is truly blessed young or old,
But feel the music from within and take a gift of gold.
Should the golden spear of music pierce the virgin heart,
The recipient ought take a knee for a blessed soul thou art.

Within these simple octaves lies a message for us all.
That music is for one as much as music is for all.
Music best described for mine is indefinable.
Though a life lived void of music is anything but full.
Music, it is one for many, many things for one.
Or one thing for a single soul when all is said and done.
Yes, music can be many things more numerous than the lands.
The world could be an orchestra instead of one man bands.
