This is a poem dedicated to my grandfather, today on his birthday, September 13th. One hard part of his cancer has been seeing this man so frail ,
who to me was always Superman. He once turned over a truck that had pinned a girl down after a wreck by himself with his bare hands. He is still fighting, but losing, his long battle with cancer. I choose to remember him now as I have seen him most of my life, as Superman.
To me you are
Superman
The glue that held
Our family together
The strength to
Break us apart
Superman
You always knew
How to get to me
Like you could see
Right through me
Superman
You worked endlessly
Creating artwork
That makes you invincible
To me you will always be
Superman
I love you, Papaw! I hope that when you finally leave us, you go to a much better place where I can one day join you and laugh with you again.
