A sonnet about walking in the woods and discovering secret new friends.
Down to the Woods

I escaped down to the woods today,
To roam trails when the day's work was done,
Let my dogs run free to have some fun.
Songs pulled me forward in dreamlike ways,
Down old paths, delightful notes did play,
Cathedral pines kissed the setting sun.
I explored beside my favorite run,
Watching shadows dance away the day.

I sat against a mossy stone face,
Where I startled her emerald green eyes,
And saw flutters of shy feathered wings.
Many buzzed within that magic place,
Charmed woods blankets a fairylike prize,
Perched on my fingers, pixies did sing.
