The Prettiest Star

I reached into the heavens
and picked you out a star
one that beamed with innocence
the prettiest by far

I polished it with star wax
made it shiny and brand new.
I put it in my pocket
and brought it straight to you

Something disheartening happened
when I put it in your hand
you opened up your palm
and the star looked dull and bland

I guess it couldn't outshine
the beauty you exude.
The prettiest star in the universe
cannot compare to you
