I Am From…Together We Can!

I am from pumpkin seeds and ostriches that look like cows,
lessons and field trips that became revelations.
I am from “Everybody listen” and “right now!”
From “Go turn a color!” and “Caught Being Goods.”
I am from “Our class is the best first grade at Hunter!”
I am from morning messages and math jobs,
tally marks and focus cards,
From Number Line Squeeze and Author’s Chair.
I’m from lost ID’s and tripping over chairs,
from “Ms. Wright are you ok?”
I’m from “Is he deaded?” and “Ms. Wright, where’s your husband?”
From long hugs, sweet words, and “you can do anything!”
I am from grade level meetings full of brownies, cake and laughter;
From early mornings with peers before dawn,
from read-alouds and “Remind me when you want to do that!”
I am from professional development and acronyms I’ll never remember,
from the values and excellence of Hunter School,
I’m from “We’re on red!!” to “Give me 5!!”
I am from 20 years of experience,
from dedication and exploration.
From “If you see something you want to try, let me know,” and
from “we must value every child’s think time!”
I am from the passion of teaching,
and the challenge to make me better,

I’m from the influence of a few fighting for the belief in a nation’s tomorrow.
